MWVG - Woodland Task

(10:00 - October 20th, 2013)

We're going to be collecting and distributing heather seeds on the areas that have been cleared of moss to enable new heather seedlings to re-establish themselves. This is a new task as part of the heathland restoration project so it'll be interesting to see how these young heather plants develop.

Bubble and Tweet

There's an unusual sound in the woodland at this time of year - but if you listen carefully you'll hear what sounds like a bird 'blowing bubbles'.

This is the song of the Nuthatch a sweet little bird with a peachy coloured breast which blends beautifully with its brown colouring.

You may also be lucky enough to see a Nuthatch in your own garden - it's fascinating to see them busy searching for food as they have a tendency to work their way down tree trunks head first.
